Find the corner: Game to four goals

Recognize the shooting window, select a target, and finish before the opportunity closes.
Repeated finishes arrive from different angles and pressure levels, teaching players to prepare quickly and choose placement or power.
Watch for: The player looks at the target before striking. The final touch creates a clear shooting window. The shot is taken promptly and the player follows the rebound.

Set it up
30 × 35 yards
Create several finishing lanes and keep no more than three players at one starting point. Build a small-sided field with two goals spaced widely on each end line, balanced teams, and spare balls beside both touchlines.

- 8–18
- Equipment
- 1 game ball · spare balls · 16 cones · pinnies · 4 mini goals · 2 mini goals or cone goals
- Play one uninterrupted round with normal scoring while the coach observes where the focus behavior already appears.
- Play to four goals so players must scan for an open target; all goals count and rebounds stay live.
- Play three four-minute games with a one-minute question and water break; restart quickly from the nearest spare ball. During play, coach only this action: Look at the goal, place the support foot beside the ball, strike through the chosen line, and follow for rebounds.
- Progression: Add a recovering defender who starts a safe distance behind and may block but not slide tackle.
- Ask, “What did the goalkeeper or open goal space tell you about where and how to finish?” Listen to two answers, then replay so players can test an idea.
