Beat a defender: Channel challenge
1v1 attacking · reinforces agility & acceleration
Engage the defender, create separation with direction or disguise, and accelerate into advantage.
Frequent duels give attackers a defender to read and an exit to attack, connecting the move to a game outcome.
Watch for: The attacker gets close enough to move the defender. A direction or speed change creates separation. The escape touch carries into usable space.

Set it up
25 × 30 yards
Work in matched pairs with one ball and clearly marked attack and recovery space. Create three eight-yard-wide connected channels with a four-yard start zone and end zone; place spare balls at both ends.

- Begin one group in each channel, explain the scoring direction and role rotation, and rehearse the first trip without defenders.
- Play 1v1 through a channel, with the attacker able to switch channels before crossing the end line under control.
- Play three three-minute rounds: unopposed picture, guided pressure, then live game-like pressure. During play, coach only this action: Approach under control, shift the defender, keep the move within reach, and take the escape touch beyond tackling distance.
- Progression: Let the defender become fully live while preserving two scoring routes so the attacker can solve rather than perform a required move.
- Ask, “How did you make the defender move before you escaped?” Listen to two answers, then replay so players can test an idea.
