Play as one: Game to four goals
Teamwork · reinforces communication
Solve the activity together by sharing information, responsibility, and meaningful involvement.
A cooperative constraint makes inclusion affect performance, while the game still leaves players free to choose how to help.
Watch for: Every player has a visible role in the solution. Teammates use constructive names, signals, or encouragement. The group resets mistakes without blame or exclusion.

Set it up
30 × 35 yards
Use small, frequently remixed groups and give each group one shared ball and one shared outcome. Build a small-sided field with two goals spaced widely on each end line, balanced teams, and spare balls beside both touchlines.
- Players
- 8–18
- Equipment
- 1 game ball · spare balls · 16 cones · pinnies · 4 mini goals
- Play one uninterrupted round with normal scoring while the coach observes where the focus behavior already appears.
- Play short games to four goals and recognize examples of inclusion, recovery help, and shared problem-solving between rounds.
- Play three four-minute games with a one-minute question and water break; restart quickly from the nearest spare ball. During play, coach only this action: Use names, show a helpful action, acknowledge ideas, and change role after contributing so another player can enter the play.
- Progression: Add opposition only after the group can organize itself, then reward solutions involving multiple players rather than mandatory pass counts.
- Ask, “What did a teammate do that made your next action easier?” Listen to two answers, then replay so players can test an idea.
