Help the next player · Read the pressure
Players offer a reachable option or recover together after a mistake.
Two teams of two play toward opposite end lines. Partners choose a name, gesture, or brief signal they can use to offer help.
A/B/C = attackers · D = defender · S = server · N = neutral · white dot = ball. Leave clear space between stations. Schematic, not to scale.- Players per station
- 4–5; use the planner for a whole group
- Space
- 16 × 20 yards per station; leave 3 yards between stations
- Equipment
- 2 balls per station (one spare) · 4 flat cones per station · Optional bibs; use agreed team/role names if unavailable
Set up, then show one repetition
Two teams of two play toward opposite end lines. Partners choose a name, gesture, or brief signal they can use to offer help. Mark four corners. Keep spare balls outside the near sideline. A fifth player joins the attackers as a rotating neutral; increase width by two yards.
- Start
- A team starts from its own end with a pass or dribble; opponents give three yards until the ball moves.
- Score
- Dribble across the opposing end under control for a point. Normal scoring counts even if only one teammate touches the ball.
- Reset & rotate
- The other team restarts after a point. Pass or dribble in after a sideline exit. Between rounds invite one example of a helpful action; players may show it or pass on speaking.

Rounds that fit 10 minutes
- 1:00 · Show and try
Show a player offering a passing option after a teammate loses control, then helping recover. A mistake starts a new problem; it does not cancel the team’s points.

Try the entry version and watch the main behavior.
- 0:20 · Rotate, drink, reset
Rotate roles as described. Take water when needed; shorten play instead of rushing the break.
- 1:53 · Play 2
In the first round, the opponent visibly closes one route without tackling. In later rounds allow a clean ball-winning challenge only if the first touch and reset are working. Add an attacking neutral in an odd group and allow an unchallenged first pass. Progress only when useful: Remix partners and invite them to choose one useful signal before the next game.

Invite one example or gesture, collect balls safely, and move to the next activity.
If it breaks down
- One player takes over: use smaller games or briefly pair that player with a different teammate; do not require every player to touch before scoring.
- Players cannot explain the objective: show one repetition with their roles, then remove one extra condition.
Make it easier
Add an attacking neutral in an odd group and allow an unchallenged first pass.
Add a stretch
Remix partners and invite them to choose one useful signal before the next game.
Safety & involvement
Check the surface and clearance around the grid. No pushing, holding, slide tackles, or challenges from behind. Begin with no-contact route blocking; allow clean ball-winning pressure only when players can control the approach. Stop play before retrieving a ball from another station.
Every player has a named role. Rotate through all roles, keep explanations between rounds, and offer a quieter demonstration or gesture response. Water and individual breaks are available whenever needed.

Why this problem
Two teams of two play toward opposite end lines. Partners choose a name, gesture, or brief signal they can use to offer help. The available space and target create a reason to act. Judge the choice in context: Loud talking is not the only evidence of teamwork; gestures and useful movement count.

Look in the next game
Players offer a reachable option or recover together after a mistake. Watch a few opportunities for two players; record the situation and choice rather than a head-turn or touch total.
Optional home game
Pass with a partner through a wide safe gate. Choose a helpful signal before each pass and reset together after a miss. Alone, practice the ball action and bring a question about helping to the next session.
