THE INTENT

Build many controlled touches while players scan, choose routes, and avoid crowding.

Why this design: More gates than players create repeated scanning and route selection without lines. Players get a technical repetition at each gate, then immediately solve the next space problem.

AExample layout · use the gate count in Setup
Example scattered two-cone gates. Each player has a ball. Choose an empty gate and continue clear before turning. Schematic, not to scale. Use the listed dimensions and quantities.
Set it up

20 × 25 yard area with scattered cone gates

Scatter one gate per pair plus two spare gates through the area and leave several yards beyond each gate. Organize 8 players before starting. Give every player a clear movement route. Check every player can move without entering another group's route.

Players
412
Equipment
8 balls (1 per player) · 8 flat cones per gate; use one gate (2 per partner group)
Show it

Show gate touch: Push the ball through the middle of the gate so both player and ball cross under control. Invite players to copy it before adding another movement.

Run it in this order
  1. 0:45 · Show the entry action: Show gate touch: Push the ball through the middle of the gate so both player and ball cross under control. Invite players to copy it before adding another movement.
  2. 2:11 · Explore at walking speed: Players travel through as many different gates as they can without racing. Use one simple action, generous space, and no elimination. Inside each timed phase, offer short repetitions and pauses whenever players need to reset.
  3. 0:20 · Drink and reset: Offer a drink, demonstrate the next action briefly, and rotate partners or leaders if used. Take more time whenever needed and shorten play.
  4. 2:11 · Add turns and moderate pace: Add a ball-surface or turn choice after each gate. Stay within comfortable control; simplify if space or balance is lost.
  5. 0:20 · Drink and reset: Offer a drink, demonstrate the next action briefly, and rotate partners or leaders if used. Take more time whenever needed and shorten play.
  6. 2:13 · Finish with a cooperative timed round: Challenge the group to use every gate cooperatively before time expires. Stay within comfortable control; simplify if space or balance is lost.
NAME IT, THEN SHOW IT
Gate touch

Push the ball through the middle of the gate so both player and ball cross under control.

Exit scan

After crossing, lift the eyes before turning and choose a gate that has a clear approach and exit.

Route change

If a gate becomes crowded, use an inside cut, outside cut, or sole pull to travel elsewhere before contact occurs.

Surface challenge

Use the named surface only for the touch through the gate; choose any safe touches between gates.
