18 × 18 yard grid
Mark a square and give each player a ball with open routes in every direction.
- Players
- 4–24
- Equipment
- 1 ball per player · 8 cones
- Dribble using only inside touches for one short round.
- Change to outside and laces touches, then use the sole to stop or pull the ball.
- Let players choose a useful surface as traffic and space change.
Gradual intensity
- Walk and explore
- Jog with surface changes
- Accelerate briefly after the coach signal
- Touch into space
- Both feet are invited
- Head up after the touch
Make it easier
Use inside and sole touches only.
Add a stretch
Call a surface and direction together, then add a turn before accelerating.
Same idea, different entry
- U6–U8Use one simple action, 30–45 second rounds, generous space, and no elimination.
- U9–U10Combine two actions, invite both feet, and build from control toward moderate speed.
- U11–U12Link the action to scanning and the session focus, then finish with controlled acceleration or pressure.
Safety check
Players must scan for traffic, avoid sliding or stamping on the ball, and accelerate only into clear space.
If it breaks down
- Touches get too large; enlarge the grid or reduce speed.
- Players avoid one foot; make it an optional personal challenge rather than a penalty.
